Winter Community Garden Prep

This winter, the short days and freezing temps were refreshing for prepping the community garden. This project was envisioned with the support of our chickens formerly inhabiting the side yard, they assisted with grass and weed elimination and added some character to the former jungle in the prior years. What I love about our yard, is its ever evolving state, the gardens are never the same. Each season reminds me that our effort creates the outcome of what we put in. When I spend time getting my hands into the earth, I slow down, and get grounded. My hope is to share this community space with my neighbors, those who may be walking by, or driving, will slow down, admire what is growing, add to the process and be inspired to bring this art into their own living spaces. This garden has native plants to the PNW, cultivating the thimble berries and blackberries growing in this space, we have also added native plants which grew here years before this farm house was built and the orchards were planted where the watershed collects. As part of a permaculture design, we studied the waterways, flora and fauna of the region and took into account climate change/ human impact on this area. We hope to utilize regenerative soil techniques and share this with all who visit the 100 feet walkway. Thanks for visiting and contributing to the Angeles Evergreen Community Garden.
